Pickup Rewire Question

so, i rewired a pair of dimarzio evolution 7s with a 5 way super switch. for the first two positions, i wanted full humbucker in 1, and coil split to single coil in position 2, without the other pickup involved. now, first postition works fine, but 2nd sounds really thin, like its out of phase, but there is nothing for it to be out of phase with. The other pickup is not connected to position two at all. AND, the middle position with both humbuckers full on sounds right. all the other positions work as intended too. i re-stripped and reconnected everything but still no luck. any suggestions?
