Pickup Screws...Are they all the same

I just picked up a Tone Zone from a member here that Im trying to put in my RG550. I did not get any screws with it so Im trying to use the stock Ibanez screws which are not fitting. Is this typical?

yup. ibanez are bigger. the dimarzio and duncan screws are the same size. sorry to hear about the bad luck. i always send pickups out with new screws just in case.

Ibanez uses metric screws, DiMarzio and SD use "standard" threads, I think they are 3-48 but I'm not positive.

Ibanez are generally M3
Dimarzio and Duncan a M2.5

Re: Pickup Screws...Are they all the same

if it helps, you can get an M3 tap and widen the hole quite easily without the need to drill.
as long as you are resigned to having M3 holes in your Dimarzio pup.

Re: Pickup Screws...Are they all the same

I used the screws on my old ibanez pickup (philips type), it took a little more force to twist them in but they opened up and it goes smoothly now. I don't like the screws that came with my dimarzio pickup, the flathead type screws cause it kept slipping and it was annoying.

You basically retapped the hole, but that is not the recommended method.

Exactly...After calling a few places with no luck I called Dimarzio and asked them if I could just order a set from them. The tech I was talking to said "no problem I'll just send you some"...I know its just a set of screws but a Big thumbs up to Dimarzio, there are other companys out there that I know would not have done that...and yes even for a sh*ty set of screws! Thanks for the help guys.

^^ Yeah, DiMarzio is pretty good in the customer service department. A lot of other companies need to learn a lot from them.
