Pickup Suggestions.

Alright I'm replacing pickups in a 1977 Ibanez Les Paul. I want a Gary Moore type of sound. A really blusey type sound. I was thinking about some Pearly Gates...what do you guys think?

The pearly gates bridge is one of my favorite bridge pickups. Ironically I don't have any. I have an old Ibanez Les Paul that is bolt on and the top is bent, not carved, so there's some hollow space in there. Is this what you have? Or do you have a set neck/solid top? I can't remember what Ibanez did in which years. The reason is that although the pearly gates will be fine in the bridge no matter what, the neck pickup tone is totally different acoustically between the two types. Usually, a pickup that replicates a PAF is all you'll need in the neck of an LP. Duncan's alnico II would be a good choice too. Will the pickups be covered or uncovered?

I'm sorry... are you posting messages from a cell phone or something? Around here we like to use full words, not techno-babble abbreviations.

I have the 1977 exact replica of a Les Paul so it's neck-through with a dark cherry transparent finish. Nice guitar...needs better pickups then these "Ibanez Super 70's" though. So any more suggestions?

I don't wanna sound like an ass or too blunt...but I posted it in my first post. It's really my dad's guitar, he wants a Gary Moore type of sound. Also, I'm getting slightly frustrated with pickups, I just got a Super Distortion for my bridge pickup in my JS1000BTB. It's got too much low end, it's too grainy. So here's the pickups I've tried and not liked and the reasons why. Tone Zone, too mushy. Fred, loved it but wound strings lacked definition, tone was good though. Super Distortion, too much low-mid range tone, too grainy. So I'm looking for something like a Fred...but with the wound strings having definition. Would a Paf Pro or a Norton do it? I'm kinda goin for a Satriani type tone but with like Flextone (or 2-3 pedals/amps) get a Gilbert type tone. ANY suggestions to match a pickup with an Air Norton in the neck of a JS1000BTB?

For your father's guitar get a pair of 59's or Pearly Gates. For your JS1000 use a Norton

alright cool...thanks Frodo. How are those Breed pickups for rythem? I like the lead sounds on those just wondering how the rythem section was.
