Pickups in new guitar

Well i'm looking to put in some pickups in the RGT42 i bought and i'm not sure what kind to put in. Its a mahogany guitar with a neck thru body. I've never had experience with mahogany. People say its dark.

I've heard mixed reviews about tone zone in mahogany being muddy and stuff. That was one of the leading contenders for the bridge pickup i was gonna use.

Well if any of you guys got any reccommendations i like to play Thrash, Metal, Heavy Metal, Shred, Classical well pretty much anything i can get my hands on. So if you guys have a super versetile set of pickups to reccommend i'm all ears.

Thanks,
Alex

Re: Pickups in new guitar

Well if you have a really good amp and you want a pickup that's more or less like the Tone Zone but that won't go muddy then I would suggest the Air Zone for the bridge. For the neck, you can't go wrong with the Air Norton for the styles that you listed. If you want a slightly more compressed sound then you might also want to think about an EVO 2 for the bridge. Personally, I have EMGs in all of my RGs and Dimarzios in my Sabre. There's just nothing like EMGs for playing metal and shred type music and they clean up quite nicely as well with the right setup.

All the mahogany J-Customs have Tone Zone bridge stock...if it sounded anything less than brilliant, I'm sure they wouldn't have kept putting it in there.

I know mine sounds great.

Tone Zone (bridge) w/ a FRED in the neck is nice combo too. I prefer FRED in the neck. I think it's best suited in that position.

air norton and tone zone are absolutely amazing in an rgt42. i did a rgt rebuild with a floyd rose 2 and AN/TZ. smoking axe. i agree with angelo about the fred. its one of my favorite neck pickups, especially for basswood.
