Pickups selection for RG550

Hi guys,

I would like to change the pickups of the rg550

I have decided on a Dimarzio Super Distortion for bridge & Breed Neck. But im stuck with selecting a middle pickup.

Im looking for a pickup that will makes the guitar versatile.
Which single coil pickup would you all recommend?

i play mainly rock and do you think the super disortion and breed are a good choice for the 550?

Many Thanks!

Re: Pickups selection for RG550

hm I'd do a blue velvet just so I could have a blues sound with it but that's just me. Also (not to jack your thread), I am getting a 550bk once I pay off the rest of my guitar. I was thinking about an x2n bridge but I don't really play like heavy metal, I play paul gilbert, vai, satriani, then sometimes zappa and SRV. Just then sometimes my friend wants me to play some detuned and sometimes he wants me to do solos like megadeth so that is heavy metal I guess. Is it like crazy distortion or can it get a good clean yet gain'y sound kinda like the evo? rofl I hope this makes sense what I said, im like rambling cause I can't think of how to explain what I want in a pickup >_<

Just don't put a rail pup in, go with a Area 58 or 61 or if you want true single coil use a blue or red velvet. That way you will get some more versitile tones. You don't need three humbuckers on a guitar.

Re: Pickups selection for RG550

any of the dimarzio virtual vintage line. the bad thing with dropping single coils into ibanez's are that they are mainly basswood. strats are typically made of either ash or alder. basswood being a relatively flat sounding wood and ash and alder being alot brighter. if you want more of a true single coil type tone...which i'm sure isn't as big of a deal considering the middle pickup. i would get any alnico 2 based single. alnico 5 will be more modern, where the ceramics will be way more punchy and less sweet. for a more strat like tone, you'll want to just coil tap the neck humbucker. try to go for the neck coil as the ibanez split 5 will make the inner coil hot when tapped.
