Question

PRS pickups! Why slate them?

Morning Guys

I recently fitted a Pearly Gates and Alnico2 to a Schecter(korean) for a customer.
I sound tested them through my little 15watt valve combo set to ZZ Top, AC/DC, Gary Moore type crunch rhythm/lead sound - set quite loud.
PS... i have done a pub gig with it so its not rubbish(quiet)!

I decided to grab my Custom 24 PRS with stock pickups and my Jem with Tone Zone & Airnorton.

I compared the bridge pickups...............

There was virtually no difference in sound..... to me!

I then asked Sue to come in, with eyes shut(obviously so she wouldn't know which guitar i had) and tested them again.

She said the same, hardly any difference in sound - the Pearly gates if anything was just a tad brighter.

So, with 3 very different guitars (woods & construction) with different pickups, you get a very similar sound?

Any comments??
I was referring to another post where someone said "and we all know PRS pickups are crap...." or something similar!

Max

I'd ignore that comment if I were you because it sounds very fanboy-ish. Like you'd probably hear the same thing on a ESP forum with people saying "DiMarzio suck!" because those guys are into EMGs.

Can you upload any sound clips to give us guys something to go off?

Could you post sound clips so we can hear the similarities in the sound?

I'm not too suprised by your post. I bet in a blind test if you put sound clips up of 3 or 4 different guitars very few people would guess right which was which correctly.

Of if you put clips of of the same guitar and said one was a Dimarzio, one was a Duncan and one was a PRS, I bet there would be 80 posts of people telling you which one sounds better, and what the differences are.
