Mostly need recommendations for a
neck pickup. Any manufacturer is ok.
I've gotten to play around with my RG2027X now that I refinished it and assembled it back together. I'm rather disappointed with the pickups. With distortion there is a lack of clarity. The bridge doesn't have that 'bite' that I like. For single note soloing, it sounds OK, but not much more... I tried pumping up the treble and turning down the mids and bass on my 22 watt Mesa, but no luck.
The setup I'm coming from is a basswood RG760 with a Steve's Special in the bridge, stock C2 in the middle, and SD Hot Rails in the neck (wired with a push pull so that the coils are usually in parallel to get more of a single coil sound, but not as thin or without the noise). Really happy with the Steve's Special and mostly so with the Hot Rails. Could be slightly clearer.
I play stuff like Robin Trower and then also progressive metal. I use the neck pickup for pretty much everything except chunky distorted rhythm (thats for the SS). Thanks in advance!
