Replacement for a Jb?

Howdy fellow jemsiters

I'm after some advice... i've got a Ltd Mh-1000(mahogany body) with a Jb in the bridge, and i'm not overly impressed. I'm after a fuller tone as the Jb is a bit too thin for my tastes.

I'm after something that likes distortion, but cleans up ok, and sounds good coil tapped. Any help would be appreciated

Rock on!

Evo 2? Maybe a steve's special or a tone zone. All these have a 'fuller' tone and can perform well for cleans too. I can't say how they'd fare if they were coil tapped though.

Re: Replacement for a Jb?

Thanks for the advice

I've read threads that say the Tone Zone has booming bass in mahogany, and others that say it goes great with mahogany. Is the bass response punchy and tight or flabby?

Tone Zone seems to be a popular pickup on this forum, so i'm leaning towards it, but I like to play alot of fast palm mutes, so I need a tight bottom end. Will it deliver?

Thank in advance folks

Rock on!

I like the tonezone too, but especially in the neck. Anyway awesome guitar! I have one I bought new, but it was the black one with EMG's. I've since modified the crap out of it, hopefully someday i'll have the time to throw some paint on it.

the Dimarzio Mo' Joe is voiced similarly to the JB but it's more open with more harmonics.

Re: Replacement for a Jb?

A $5 solution sounds great!

So...how does one go about changing the magnet in a pickup?

Is it a complicated process or can a dumbass like me do it?

Ta for the help folks and...

Very easy to do...

Seriously, a magnet swap on the JB is a common and popular mod. Try if and see if you like it before spending money on a new pup.
