Replacement pickups for S670

After finding that I can't fit a sustain system in my S670 without serious routing, which I don't fancy, I figured a change of pickups may give me that extra bit of sustain I'm looking for. I'm aware a compressor will also do this, but I want to change the pickups in this thing anyway coz I find they're a bit lifeless.

So I went looked around Dimarzio and thought of this:
PAF Joe (neck)
Breed (Bridge)

I'm looking for a fuller tone with big harmonics, without being mid heavy. I realise the Joe is pretty mid heavy, so has anyone got any ideas/suggestions?

*edit*

Bareknuckle Cold Sweat set also looks pretty cool

Paf Joe is not that mid heavy, so you can be safe there, any way your guitar tonewood is low mids heavy, so if you want clarity you should stay away from lower mids heavy pickups.

Now breed birdge... that IS a mid heavy pickup.

For the neck the paf pro should be fine, for the birdge my advice y eider Norton or Evo2

Okay now it's either:

PAF Pro + Evo 2

or

Evo + Evo 2

Anyone willing to try and persuade me either way?

modern sound = Evolution Neck
paf sound with a 80's vive = Paf Pro

Re: Replacement pickups for S670

I have Evos in my S540 and I like how they brighten up the mahogany tone. But I've also heard of people that hate them on an S...
As for the sustain, My S has great natural sustain, I believe due to the mahogany body, so any pickup had decent sustain in it...

Re: Replacement pickups for S670

I'm planning on keeping the current one and wiring it in parallel, so I can set it lower and keep it clear of picking technique, but not lose power.

Do the standard INF singles come with 4 conductor?

Let me clarify. I just ordered a S670FM a few days ago and I'm looking to change its pickups (if I find the Inf ones lacking).

This is what I came up with:

Neck: Seymour Jazz
Middle: Seymour SSL-1 ??
Bridge: Seymour JB

OR

Neck: Dimarzio Paf Pro ??
Middle: Dimarzio Area 58/61/67??
Bridge: Dimarzio Evo II ??

?? - Not Sure...

I play anything and everything really. Open for suggestions...

Re: Replacement pickups for S670

PAF Pro and EVO II seems to be a good combo, from what I'm told.

I'm not too sure about the DiMarzios as I'm not really a shredding type of guy...

How is the ISCV2 as a single coil?

I'll say this, unless you are a strict traditionalist pickup type of guy, that the Dimarzio Area and Virtual Vintage single coils are great sounding and quiet too!

Re: Replacement pickups for S670

I am going thru this myself as well with my S520EX (HH config). Despite everyone who has this guitar wanting to pop EMG's in it or even more silly, actually thinking that the INF's it comes stock with ARE some form of EMG's (LMFAO) I decided to go another route.

As raved about as the Tone Zone(b) and Air norton(n) combo was, I gave that a try and they are currently installed now for about a week. The Air norton is great. Im not so fond of the Tone Zone though. Many say it can get muddy .. I'm not finding that at all, but rather that it seems somewhat thin and a little to Bright for my taste.

On the other hand I heard a Paf Pro (n) and Fred(b) in a S540Ltd yesterday and I LOVED the Paf Pro. very smooth and rich without being mushy or muddy to me. but the Fred was awful. the original poster might like it though. It seemed to have almost No mids to me and was all bass treble. to me the Fred sounds "harsh".

the next stop for me is JB (b) and Jazz (n). I have them already, but before I install them I will spend some more time playing the Dimarzio TZ(b) and AN(n) and do some recording to compare. I recorded the INF's too before switching to the Dimarzio's

Honestly, with as many people asking the same pickup questions on sites like this over and over, I HIGHLY recommend just trying as many pups as you can afford to try and RECORDING them each time. then comparing and choosing from there.
That's what Im doing. We all know tone is completely subjective so what he said or she said about this pickup or that pickup.. whats it really matter.. what did you think about it? that is the real question.
