Restoring original RG570 V7-S1-V8 setup trouble

After successfully switching bridge pickups in my other (now sold) RGR570 '97, I thought this would be easy, only 2 wire pickups and such. Story with this RG570 '99: An active EMG81 was placed at the bridge in a shop (that is gone now). Mixing active with passive, High with low impedance pickups, this was quite a puzzle that required new pots, required disabling the tone pot etc, but luckily all the original Ibanez parts were in the EMG box, even the pots-assembly was kept intact (with the 331 and 223 'thingies' still in place, see diagram below) so I took my chances.

So I put everything back as it was on the wiring diagram below. The 5 way switching 'seems' okay, but I get a lot of hum when I use gain. Some questions arise:

1. what is this part ? it isn't mentioned on the diagram but came back with the other ibanez parts:

2. Is this the 5 way switch that is supposed to be in a 3-pickup RG? Not sure if the tech changed it at the time.

3. Am I using the correct diagram below ? The Diagram page at ibanez.com doesn't work, images are missing so I found this elsewhere. If I recall correctly, and from the little bridge pup connection notes I dug up (RGR), there are differences in the 5-way switch connection although my RGR570 and RG570 have the exact same pickup configuration. Red/white are switched I'm almost 100% sure (don't know if that can be a problem ?)

Any help appreciated. Thx !

Re: Restoring original RG570 V7-S1-V8 setup trouble

ah, got closer ! this thread helped me out and made clear the wiring on the diagram was a bit of (inverted):
http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f35/ib...tar-27030.html

However, I still have this high fizzly background noise when I'm on the single coil alone, middle position. So I wonder it has something to do with this mystery part on the first picture.

Maybe someone could check the original wiring on his Ol' Rg to see if it's used somewhere ? that would be great.

Thx mrjakob69. I color-marked the pickup wires. Besides the 5-way switch, everything else is wired like it is mentioned on the wire diagram. Here goes:

woah that picture is huge, but it seems from looking at it you are missing the wire inbetween the tone and volume, other then that i could not be sure where your problems are coming from other then that the pots could be junk. maybe they changed them for a reason?

Re: Restoring original RG570 V7-S1-V8 setup trouble

The wire between tone en volume pot is there like it is mentioned on the schematic. Actually, the original tone en vol pot came back in the EMG-box still connected to each other, so I just had to place the pots back in the cavity. The tone pot works fine as well. My only problem left is quite some hum when I use the center pickup alone. My Jem DBK doesn't hum at all on the center pickup, and I'm pretty shure this RG570 didn't either before I put things back. No idea about the part (first pic in this thread) ?

It's a part from EMG, so that's cleared out.

Just the Single coil hum... how do I solve that ? this high fizzly background noise when I'm on the single coil alone, middle position.

My Jem is dead quiet on the middle pickup, and as far as I can remember this RG was as well.

Well its a .01 uF / 100 volt Capacitor, what was is soldered to? Its way too large for a volume bypass cap and a bit small for a tone.

It's a part that came with the EMG81 if I look at EMG81 parts pictures.
