Reverse polarity middle single coil?

I special ordered an Air Norton, Blue Velvet Bridge and Evo 2 for my crappy little GRG170DX. Reading around I find out I should have gotten the Blue Velvet in reverse polarity? This is my first time installing new pickups so I'm not sure what to do. Just reverse the wires for the Blue Velvet and flip the neck and bridge around?

Also, my guitar's wiring is a bit different from the ones I see from Dimarzio's pdfs or Magnus Olsson's guide, so I'm a bit confused:

I couldn't find my exact guitar on the wiring diagrams on ibanez.com, but this one seems similar, right?

Re: Reverse polarity middle single coil?

You don't need a reverse polarity one actually. If you have a normal middle pickup you just wire it backwards. leave the neck and bridge pickups alone.

The wiring diagram for the RG170 should be the same as your GRG.

Re: Reverse polarity middle single coil?

No need to rotate the neck 180 like it says in the guide? Also, no risk of damage to the pickup? I read in another thread that wiring it backwards would damage it.

I'm confused by this: my guitar has a switch with only one row of connectors, while the wiring diagrams I find on DiMarzio have two rows, so I'm not sure how to connect them?

Re: Reverse polarity middle single coil?

I wonder, does your guitar have a 3 way selector instead of a 5 way? If it does, then I would suggest changing the switch out while you're installing the pickups since a 3 way selector is denying you all of the tonal possibilities of those pickups.

Re: Reverse polarity middle single coil?

It's a 5-way switch. I found this wiring diagram that I'm following now:

Re: Reverse polarity middle single coil?

I think something's wrong with the middle pickup. I wired it backwards and didn't do anything to the rest of the pickups.

I'm playing Em for each switch position. The 2/3/4 positions are really quiet and the only way to make the middle pickup loud is to put it very close to the strings.

Re: Reverse polarity middle single coil?

Alright, I raised the middle pickup's height a lot by putting some cusions under it. Now position 3 is the same volume as the other pickups. However, 2 and 4 are still extremely quiet. Also, there's barely any bass and feels weak.. is this being out of phase?

Any solutions to this?
