RG550 Pickups-What are they?
Hi. Just found this site today and think it's great!
I have one RG550 that I picked up used awhile ago and I've been wondering if the pickups are stock or not.
This one has no printed writing on the the pickups. It's just all black.
Did RGs ever come out like this?
This is an older RG550, arounf 91' or 92'. It's not here with me right now, so I can't verify the exact year.
Thanks.

They are
Ibanez pickups
. V1 in the neck, S1 in the middle and V2 in the bridge.

So these pickups never had V1, S1, V2 printed on them?

My old RG550 a 1990 model, with V1 S1 and V2 pickups had the names printed on the pickups, but that printing wore off easily after a couple of years so it might be the logos on these have gone.
Or they could well be replacement pickups I think it's probably more likely that they're replacements rather than ALL traces of any logos being gone, I'm sure there'd be a least a little trace of the printing left, unless someone actually set out to remove the logos.

My RG had those V pickups too. Total crap.
If you look underneath the pickups, they're probably stamped with a number. If so, cross-reference to the Dimarzio website.

Just wanted to post an update....like you guys really care
I found another rg550 like mine (black w/rosewood board)
It's a 1997 and it has the same pickups with no printing.
I know this one is factory and they were not worn off, so I guess there were some with no prints.

That's very strange...I've never heard of 550 stocks without identifiers on them.

The earlier ones didn't have them.

I've been a fan for a few years and I just found this out.
Check out some of the scans of the Ibanez catalogs (198
on the Ibanez Rules web page.
