rg550, should i change pickups?

Hi. I just got an rg550 that I plan to mod over the summer. I don't have much money, and I'm not sure if I should switch out the pickups. So far I like the stock pickups a decent amount, but there is definitely room for improvement. I have noticed that they are pretty versatile, and I play through a processor, so I don't think it's really necessary. What do you experts say? Any input would help. Neal

Hey man, I'm in the same boat. I recently picked up an '87 RG 550 (that's in remarkably good condition for being that old) that I plan to improve. The stock pickups are definitely not bad, but I plan to put a Super Distortion in the bridge. I recommend going with something like this, as the maple neck and maple fretboard is going to give you enough brightness. I think I'm also going to put a sustainer in, and maybe a Fast Track 1 in the neck.

this might help...It's a newer rg550, so it has the v7, s1, v8 config. I already have an rg120 with a super distortion, that i might switch into the bridge on the 550 if i'm feeling adventurous. Maybe you guys could give me some input. Thanks. Neal

If you don't want another Super Distortion, there's always something like the PAF Pro.

well, it all depends on what sound you're looking for, and what music genre you play and what setup you play thru.
