I just got a great new (to me) 1998 RG550 from a fellow Jemsiter. I installed a Breed in the bridge thinking it would be perfect because of the warmth it (the Breed) dispayed in my Rosewood fretboarded RG370DX.
The 550 is still too
bright for my tastes, probably not used to the maple board.
I was not sure how to attack this because I love the guitar, just not it's brightness. I switched the
tone pot to a 250K ohm already and even thought about just hardwiring a 150Kohm resistor into the tone pots' place but I use the tone pot so that option is out.
I read that the lower you went in cap values, the more highs that would come thru so I went the other way and instead of using the .022 cap, I used a .047 on the tone pot.
Question is, is my thinking right? Is that the best way to go about doing it? To not have a guitar sound so jangly and harsh?
Thanks,
Jeff
