RG550 Wiring Diagram & Volume Capacitor

Anyone have the wiring diagram for a 91 RG550? The wiring diagrams on the Ibanez sight are not working so I can't get it from there. I have a bad pot on my guitar and when I opened it up to replace the pot I noticed that there was no capacitor on the volume pot. I just want to see what was supposed to be there if anything.

From what I've read removing the volume cap with darken the tone which would make sense sine it came with full Evos on it and perhaps the previous owner was trying to tame the ice pick sound. They have since been replaced with the stock neck V1, stock mid S1 and a TZ in the bridge.

Anyway, if anyone has the wiring diagram or happens to know what cap should be there I would appreciate it. I'm going to assume it was a 330pF since that was the part listed for the 94 RG550. I kinda like the tone as is with no cap, just double checking to make sure it's not absolutely needed. Thanks!

C'mon! All the 550 owners here & not one person has a copy of the wiring diagram or knows what cap goes on the volume pot?

You don't usually put a cap on the volume, only the tone. However, 330pf is the sensible option.

Re: RG550 Wiring Diagram & Volume Capacitor

It would appear I am inexperienced in the matters of higher level Ibanez wiring protocol (my S doesn't have a cap on volume). You would indeed usually put a 330pf cap on the volume pot.

Re: RG550 Wiring Diagram & Volume Capacitor

Well that is what I thought but unfortunately the Ibanez wiring diagrams are not available therefore I was unable to confirm this. Does anyone know the necessity of the cap on a volume pot? If you leave it off what are the results or consequences?

you lose highs when you rolloff the volume pot without the cap.

Re: RG550 Wiring Diagram & Volume Capacitor

right. it will let you back off the guitar volume without it getting muddy. i've added them to all my guitars. really works well on strat too...
search for "high pass filter" and maybe some stuff will come up to give you more info...

Thanks guys. Appreciate it. When I replace the pot (it's gone bad) I'll test with & without the cap & compare.

Great idea. If this business is as effective as it sounds, I might be doing this on all my guitars.

well, i put one on my MIM strat and it sounds great now. you can get a tone you can do something with when you roll the volume back to halfway. sounds great.

Re: RG550 Wiring Diagram & Volume Capacitor

I have a diagram, but I'm apparently not allowed to post links until I reach 20 posts. But yeah, there's supposed to be a 331 on the volume pot and a 223 on the tone pot. So 0.033 µF and 0.022 µF (or 330 pF and 220 pF, whatever floats your boat ). There used to be 331 on my volume pot (I have the same guitar as you, just a bit older), but I did an electronics overhaul. I don't really feel the need for it.
