as lyconxero says, this is easily doable with a 24-pole, 5-way switch. i have a scan of a
wiring diagram for this scheme from an old issue of the Stewart Macdonald catalog.

this you can do with one push/pull pot. decide which coils you want to cut off or on, and run the appropriate wires through the push/pull before they go to the 5-way switch.
if you want to get really fancy, you can wire your coil-cutting into the 5-way switch so that it only coil cuts in certain positions. i did that to my RG2027--the humbuckers are split in the bridge and neck positions, but the middle positions are the same.
