Rich, or others, Pickup Question

I addressed this to Rich because I know he has played a lot of Dimarzios in various guitars. But, if you have imput please respond.

Is a Breed or Air Zone to dark for a mahogany set neck guitar (Bridge)? I'm worried it might be muddy? Would a Norton be a better route. It's for a general purpose guitar, Rock, Solo, Southern Rock, Prog.

For the neck, I've always wanted to try a Air Norton. How would it fair in a the neck?

Air zone? you mean Tone Zone? Get an Air Norton Neck and PAF or Evo II in the bridge.

I say the wood doesn't do **** for sound when amplified.. It may a little but who notices.. sure my friends SG sounds really nice unplugged but when its plugged in it sounds like every other SG no matter what wood..

I did mean Air Zone, the tone zone I think would be a bit much, the Air Zone is a bit more mellow.

Have you played a Air Norton in the neck of a Gibson style guitar? How was it?

Here's a video of the Air Zone in the bridge and the Air Norton in the neck of a Les Paul through a Splawn Quickrod. He runs his treble pretty low, so it's a little smoother than running it straight up, but you get the idea:

I've used an Air Norton in the neck of a Les Paul, I know a guy who has 3 pickups for neck they were..

Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro
Air Norton
DiMarzio Evo DP158 Neck

He wanted to see which was best so he temporarily wired each in and he decided on the Evo. But I like the smooth tones of the Air Norton. But in my guitar I had the Evo DP158 until I got the sustainer installed. But my guitar is basswood.

Since your friend chose the Evo, why did he? What type of music and tone is he going for. Thanks, I've considered an Evo in the neck.
