Sam ash vs Guitar Center for electronic work

Hi -
I have a Ibanez RG550 with a custom pickguard for 2 hums (no single anymore), tone control, vol control, and 3-way switch. I do not know how to solder and want to change the guitar alittle. I want to get rid of the 3-way and tone control and replace the volume control with a push/pull pot volume (ala George Lynch).
Questions:
1-(Excuse the ignorance) is the pusk/pull pot common at guitar stores or is it a special order?
2 - Will the hole for the volume know on my pickguard be the right size for the push/pull pot?
3 - Finally, who from your experience is better for this, Sam Ash or Guitar Center? What is the typical price for this?

Thanks in advance,

jeff

Re: Sam ash vs Guitar Center for electronic work

1) Depends on the store, at GC or SA, not sure, at the store I go to, the tech usually has one.

2) Yes, they should be the same size or very close.

3) Don't know about SA, not even sure if the GC near me even does tech type stuff, and even if they do, not on my guitar. Guess it kinda depends on the store, but I associate GC with Wal-Mart these days, do you want a Wal-Mart employee fixing your computer? I do all my own work, short of re-frets, but my advice would be to find an independent store with a good tech/luthier. It may cost a little more, although I kinda doubt it, but, especially in NY, it shouldn't be hard to do and you'll probably get much better service.

$0.02,
Roger
