Sam ash vs Guitar Center for electronic work

Hi -
I have a Ibanez RG550 with a custom pickguard for 2 hums (no single anymore), tone control, vol control, and 3-way switch. I do not know how to solder and want to change the guitar alittle. I want to get rid of the 3-way and tone control and replace the volume control with a push/pull pot volume (ala George Lynch).
Questions:
1-(Excuse the ignorance) is the push/pull pot common at guitar stores or is it a special order?
2 - Will the hole for the volume know on my pickguard be the right size for the push/pull pot?
3 - Finally, who from your experience is better for this, Sam Ash or Guitar Center? What is the typical price for this?

Thanks in advance,

jeff

It really comes more down to the individual doing the work, not so much the store. In my neighborhood i'd say 'take it to Ash' because I know the tech there to be incredible. in your neighborhood, GC's tech may be more knowledgable.

If you're in Columbus, i'd recommend trying to hook up with Kevan (kevan@jemfest.com) - he's in New Albany and if he's not too busy wtih Tremol-no stuff, he'd probably be happy to help you or steer you in the right direction.

Jackson Heights? nice! Kev moved there from here and you moved here from there.

John Bertsche is the tech at Westbury/Carle Place Sam Ash (last i heard). I've been using him since before he worked there (was bummed out when they hired him, actually).

You may want to call up Rob Balducci's tech - i believe he lives in JH as well. that'd work out well. He does excellent work and turns the stuff around fast (i used him about a year ago and i owe him a visit!). His name is Sal. I'll PM you his number. Hopefully it still works.

Ah crap. My cell phone (qwith Sal's number) is upstairs and I'm too tired to go up and get it and come back down. I'll get it for ya tmw

DOH, see my post in your double thread, but it seems like you have some local guys with the 411! So, my impressions are solely based on my local GC experiences... I've actually fixed stuff for GC employees.
