Series/parallel madness!

Hi people,

I know nothing when it comes to wiring pups. What way does the Evolution pup come in (series or parallel) when it is in the shop? I ask because I recently discovered that my yamaha tele is wired in parallel and I really like the sound. Can an Evo be made parallel?

Re: Series/parallel madness!

Uhhhh....the pickup itself isn't really "wired" at all. Whether the pickup is in series or parallel has to do with how it's wired to the switch. You should probably email the Dimarzio tech and ask him/her to send you some wiring diagrams for whatever it is that you're trying to do.

Re: Series/parallel madness!

Typically parallel wiring produces a more bright, clucky, and chirpy type of sound. I think most folks want this in a telecaster, but probably not in something you'd drop an Evo bridge pickup in. The Evo is bright all on its own.

Now Paul Gilbert runs Tone Zones parallel in some of his guitars I think, it's doable with a fatter pickup like that.

Anyway, yes, there's a way to have a bridge humbucker operate both ways. You'll need a push/pull pot or a switch. I had mine wired that way for awhile so it's definately doable.

If you get a 3-way DPDT switch you can have series / coil cut / parallel. You can get instructions on how to do it (and series / parallel) off www.stewmac.com.

Re: Series/parallel madness!

i have the series/ parallel wiring on 2 of my guitars. A push pull tone pot will work the same as a dpdt .

I have a norton that is wired up like this and a fred that is wired up like this.

series has more power, when in parallel majority of pickups are brighter and have a little less power.

the super distortion is cool to wire like this, so are any other darker sounding pickup that you want to become a little brighter.
