Seymour-Duncan Invader in a strat?

Hey - I've got an HSS strat (Texas special) - with an SD Pearly Gates in the bridge position. The pearly gates is alright, I like it for dirty blues type stuff, but I find it very trebly, and usually have to fiddle for a while before I find a decent sound. Now from the Duncan site - the invader has loads of mids and lows, which I'm thinking is exactly what I need, but I'm thinking I don't want a pickup thats going to have a stupid amount of gain. I just want something a little beefier than the pearly gates.

maybe try a Dimarzio Breed, it's nice and thick with lots of lows and mids without being too terribly hot like the duncan.

Isn't that the pickup that's in the Tom Delongue signature strat? If you can find one, try it out at a store. AFAIK the music he plays doesnt have loads of gain, so it shouldn't be a problem for you.

Actually now that you mention it - I do remember the Tom D strat - I doubt they still make them though. Yeah probably the last thing Blink 182 is known for is ripping high gain.

And the Breed sounds cool - I'll look up the Dimarzio page and snoop around.

Comparing the Breed to the Tone Zone - which is easier to get harmonics?

the Breed is tighter than the Tone Zone so it's a little easier to get harmonics out of the Breed. The Tone Zone just sounds massive.

i hate the invader. Way too honky. If you want a great bridge pickup for a strat i'd recommend the JB, although the pearly gates plus is one i've always liked too

for a strat, i think the tz would be better due to the high end of the ash/alder. i don't have any problem with dynamics with my tz's.

Jemwielder is totally right. I had the Invader as my first ever pickup change in an Ibanez Roadstar and it sucked. It's a Ceramic Magnet, very heavey, noisey, loud and dirty. Go with a Seymour Duncan Dimebag. It's a nice pickup, or a Custom.

It's still a lot better than the Invader. I was surprised when I installed it in a guitar for a customer. Check the specs.
