I have put a 59 in the neck and a CC in the bridge. My UV7 sounds more organic now. The neck pup is not too hot, gives me a variety of tones from warm-clean to bluesy to ballsy rhythm, also good for soloing. The bridge pup sounds warm, the solos sing. I will try a JB or DC to check if I'll like having more harmonics. Now, the guitar has the warmth and dynamics I had missed. But that's just me, my fingers and my rig... Good luck!

Yes, someone I know put that combo in his UV7... Dimarzios just not fit my taste. I have the problem with them that they sound in a very specific way regardless of the amp and axe one uses. I like Duncans more. But, that's just me...

I just recently put a JB in the bridge, and a '59 in the neck of my 2027.

The JB sounds great to my ears. *It's clean sound is crisp, and the distortion sound is well rounded and fat. *I'm sure any tone is achievable with this pickup.

The '59 sounds pretty good, but has a bit too much bottom and not enough mid for my tastes. *I'm sure the solid mahogony body is contributing to that though. *It's nothing a little eq'ing can't fix.

Before ordering 7-string pickups from Seymour Duncan, have documented confirmation they will exchange them if you're not satisfied. *They wouldn't exchange my '59 pickup because they said that pickup was only made when ordered.

If anyone would like mp3's of the pickups in action, let me know....

i have a 7 string Invader in my rg7420. replaced a tone zone 7. It gives the TZ7 a spanking as far as output goes. tonally they are somewhat similar. Invader is just a meaner pup, but less defined. problem was, the SD's come with a pup ring and are not direct mountable. so what i had to do is take both pups apart and swap mounting plates. the invader is just a huge pickup and even after the swap i had to rout the cavity so i wouldn't crush the 4 conductor wiring. even with the Invader screwed all the way down, it was almost too tall. had to raise my action a bit.

Shim the back of the neck pocket, to slant the neck a bit more. Then, raise the bridge. It'll give you the same low action you're used to, while allowing more space in the bridge position pickup cavity.

It's all good now. my action was quite low to begin with. seymour duncan needs to have an option of flat bottom pups for that kind of thing.
