Should i install a MO JOE to my JS1000?

Hi all, as the title says, should i fit one for better tone? Has anyone here installed a MO JOE to the bridge and what do you think to it?

Thanks in advance

Hey man, I installed one on an RGA121, yes I know that's not the same thing, but for what it's worth, in that guitar, with my old Carvin amp it sounded good but I noticed the pickup is (in my opinion) very unforgiving. It was very clear and tight, almost to a fault... there was no hiding with it. But that was my experience.

Re: Should i install a MO JOE to my JS1000?

I don't think the sound difference is really worth the money when going from the Fred to the Mo'Jo. There is a difference but not so much so that you definately need to get rid of the Fred, and the Fred sounds good to you right? If not then by all means try something else.

Plus, Joe didn't change to the Mo'Jo on all his guitars, just some. He still readily uses the Fred on a lot of axes, in recordings and of course live. If you think about it that way, you are still getting great Satch tones, which I assume is why you wanted the JS in the first place. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he uses the Fred the most still and it's on his favorite axe, I think he mainly uses the Mo'jo on guitars with heavier string gauges.

Now if you want a different kind of sound, then get a totally different PUP. But the Fred and Mo'Jo are so similar I wouldn't reccomend it.

Re: Should i install a MO JOE to my JS1000?

I built two of my RG's with a MoJoe and a PAFJoe. I think its a great combo. Not the best for hard core metal, but for darn near everything else it's a very versatile combo. If you're using a good pedal OD then you're set for anything. If you want a little more drive, try the AT1.

I agree that with Kotor that there's not a HUGE difference between the Fred (which I really like) and the MoJoe, but you DO get a little more grunt with the MoJoe.

I have swapped out the Fred and Paf Pro for a Moe Joe and Paf Joe on my 1200ca. The difference on the PAF was subtle, but I absolutely loved the difference between the Fred and the Moe.

More growl, more output and a little thicker sounding. Basically it sounds like a pumped up Fred!

I'd recommend the change for sure - well worth it.

Definitely go Mo Joe in bridge and PAF Joe in neck. Great combo.

Not when I bought mine back in 2004. Swapped my pups out in 2006

My 2004 has the paf joe, and it has been listed that way in the specs since it was released.

My mistake - you're absolutely right. I got confused as I had swapped pickups out of 3 guitars at the time:

1. MoeJoe (new - chrome topped) into a JS2 prm
2. MoeJoe (new -black) into JS1200Ca
3. MoeJoe (chrome topped) from JS2prm (I thought it had a Fred in as standard, only when we went to replace the pickups did I realise it came with a MoeJoe! Didn't have an amp to test the JS2 out with beforehand to realise as I was moving country at the time, and everyone seemed to think it came with a Fred) into bridge of Washburn Wi200 ProE
4. Fred (black) from JS1200ca into neck of Washburn Wi200 ProE

Too much to keep up with, but bottom line - they all sound fab! MoeJoe is very nice sounding.

Good luck fella!

Does anyone know if Joe used a Mo Joe on his JS2PRM in the 2006 Live DVD? (The meaning of love song.) I love that sound.

Probably did - the JS2prm came WITH a MoeJoe installed from new - even though there seemed to be some confusion over the release specs.

If it aint broke don't fix it. If the standard set-up isn't to your liking then maybe it's an option!
