Single Sized Humbucker ?
I bought a G&L Legacy and I'm going to play it for awhile before I decide to swap the
bridge pickup
, but...... Chances are I will want something in the bridge that can get more bass and cover some of the metal stuff I play while still having the cool tone for solos of the singles in the neck and mid positions.
For bridge single sized humbucker from Dimarzio, which one would cover heavier stuff WITHOUT sounding shrill and thin and peircing on the highs? I was thinking about the Pro Track or the
Super Distortion
? I still want some warmth to my tone.

I'd say go for a Chopper. I'm going to be putting one in my Strat.

Re: Single Sized Humbucker ?
You know I've never tried the Super D mini, but if they were trying to duplicate the Super D sound, that's the closest you'll get to sounding NOT shrill, and with warmth and lower midrange fist-in-the-gut. But not having heard one, I don't know how close they came to actually obtaining the Super D humbucking tone. I just know that in trying to approximate it, even if they failed miserably, it's probably still the closest to what you're asking for from a single sized humbucker that's mounted in the slanted Strat position.

According to Dimarzios pickup selector, the chopper is reccommended when looking for more of a single coil tone.
I have read that the Super D is very warm, just concerned it may not balance well with the singles, maybe over powering?

Re: Single Sized Humbucker ?
I'm using the chopper in the bridge and
neck position
and I'm very happy with it. It's not a humbucker but it's very warm and loud.

Re: Single Sized Humbucker ?
I just put a JB Junior in my charvel in the neck position and I quite like it. It is quite warm but still cuts through. I assume the same will be true but less so in the bridge.
Hot rails are not bad as well.

Re: Single Sized Humbucker ?
I'm currently using Fast Track 2 in my Strat. If I had another Strat layin' around I'd like to try the
Tone Zone
S.
I've used the JB Jr., but prefer the Fast Track 2 over it.

Can you still get strat tones with the Fast Track and how's it for heavier stuff?

Re: Single Sized Humbucker ?
Great for the heavy stuff. Don't know if you've seen any of the "JerryC" vids on Youtube, he uses one in the bridge of his red Strat.
According to Dimarzio, it's a cross between a Super Distortion and a Super 3, if I remember correctly. So, there are no "Stratty" tones in the Fast Track 2. You might be able to get it if you split the coil, but I haven't tried it that way.

Re: Single Sized Humbucker ?
I'd agree with the comments for the Fast Track and the Chopper - I've heard (but not played!) both and they sound really good for what I believe you're going at.

Re: Single Sized Humbucker ?
I think I'm looking to play like Southern metal COC, Down with my strat. So a Paf tone thru a high gain head should work.

Re: Single Sized Humbucker ?
Fast Track 1 might be a better choice for you if you don't need it to be too hot.
