Srange volume/tone problem

I just had new pickups and hardware installed in my 7620. The pickups are SD JB in bridge and Jazz in the neck. There is one volume with built-in coil tap, and no tone control knob. The problem is, when the volume knob is on 10, the tone is EXTREMELY bright, with hardly any low end. However, if i roll the knob back to 7 or 8, it sounds as if you turned the tone knob all the way off, absolutely NO highs whatsoever, and very muddy. I use the volume knob alot to get a more clean sound all the time with my other guitars, and have never experianced this problem. I'm thinking it must be something to do with the volume knob; is this possible?

Sounds like you might have the wrong Ohm rating on your volumn pot.

Whats on there now? 500? 250? 10?

You might want to drop down to a 250 if you want more control over your
volum/tone.

Ouch, you caught me.

I'm such a wanna-be wiring dude.

Yeah, you can check it, but I don't recall which pins you have to check it
on. I think you check it on ground (the metal casing) and one of the outer
two pins. IE NOT the one in the middle.

Check it's impedence with the knob turned all the way one way, and
then check it again with it turned all the way the other way.

IT WON"T BE EXACT! So if your at 550 or 400. Don't fret, just call it a
500 and be happy.

Also, a lot of pots have the Impedence written along the cylindrical side
of the pot rather then impressed on it's bottom. If you can, take it out of
the guitar, and examine it all around. But you should be able to figure
it out with your multimeter.

Sorry I can't remember which pins to check it on exactly. I have this $140
multimeter here, but battry corrosion KILLED it! I've had other things to
spend $150 on then a REALLY good multimeter. And somehow I can't
bring myself to buy a cheap one!

Yes it's a sickness.

I hope this helped out some!

Good Luck!
