Superswitch or not......

Ok so I have an RG7321 and I want to change out the pickups...

according to the Ibanez website its current wiring is for:

5 Way selector....

NECK - NECK (Parallel) - NECK & BRIDGE - NECK & BRIDGE (Inner Coils) - BRIDGE

So I found a wiring diagram in Dimarzios site for the same setup on an RG7620... same wiring....

So I wired it up, same as above and it wont seem to work...

Took it into the shop and they say I need a 'Superswitch' to get this config.... my question is....

If the original pickups can do this config with the factory switch, is it true I need a special switch to do the same config with Dimarzios? surely the factory switch should be able to do the job?

Re: Superswitch or not......

the factory switch installed on the RG7620 is not a standard one. That's the explanation. As far as I remember on one of the diagrams there is a code close to the swith. This is the switch reference. The internal switching is different.
If you keep the standard 5-way switch you will need an additional switch to get the neck pup coils in parallel (I did that on my 2 guitars: std 5-way switch and push-pull pot switching series - parallel).
Another option might be a ON-ON DPDT switch. Or a ON-ON-ON DPTT (3 positions) swith which allows to switch from series to split coil to parallel.
You are the one to choose!
Good luck!

Re: Superswitch or not......

BTW, the switching issues have nothing to do with the pickup brand

Re: Superswitch or not......

Cheers thanks for the info..... I guess what im getting stumped with is..... if it can be wired that way with factory pickups (as it is now on the RG7321), the what makes the dimarzios require a different switch?

Re: Superswitch or not......

This is the same wiring and this will require the same switch, as far as I checked the wiring diagrams below:

Re: Superswitch or not......

... so those powersounds have different colored wires, but the switch IS identical between a 762x and a 7321.

in essence, to wire Dimarzio's on your 7321, one has to reference Ibanez's wiring diagram of a 762x...
