First off a BIG hi too all !!!

I have an Ibanez RG1527. Just wanted to know where I can find a Sustainer pickup for 7 string guitars. I know Vai uses em. Can someone direct me to where I can get it from, manufacturer, model no. etc ? Any idea if these Pups easy to install ?

Re: Sustainer For 7 String

Bro i don't think they made Sustainers pickups for 7string guitar's?- but there might be away to install a Sustainer Circit Board in your guitar i don't know that much on this subject, Fernadas made the Sustainer pickup that Steve Vai uses in his guitars, you would have to ask someone who knows about it like a guitar tech that has done guitars with Sustainers in them or the other option is to use a Ebow to get a similar effect, the Ebow is a divice that is held above the strings to make them Sustain, it's not the same as having a Sustainer in your guitar but it dose sound good when you use the Ebow.

Good luck with it bro- Jake.

Re: Sustainer For 7 String

Fernandes USED to make a 7 string Sustainer in thier 7 string Revolver, but since that guitar is discontinued they also stopped making the 7 string sustainer. I already tried ordering it from Fernandes in Japan and they told me as well as 2-3 other large Japanese dealers that they no longer sell it. Your best bet is to buy an old Fernandes 7 string with one installed already and then gut it out for the electronics. Aside from that, if you can get a hold of one, let me know.

Re: Sustainer For 7 String

I actually recently sold one pulled from a Fernandes 7, so they are out there as Budd says. I'd also go to Projectguitar.com, there's a lot of do it yourself sustainer systems on there, and I'm sure some of them would translate to 7 string.

Re: Sustainer For 7 String

If it were me, I'd take a 6-string sustainer/sustainiac, but the kind that is contained in a single coil housing, and pair it up with a 7-string single coil pickup. You'd have 6 strings that would be actively sustaining and the low B would be left alone. I can understand why you'd want a sustainer on a 7-string, but I can't ever see why you'd need the low B string to sustain. It's clumsy enough keeping all the unused strings quiet on a 7-string anyway.
