Swapping pickup magnets

Well now that I've done some pickup magnet swaps with my newly acquired PAF Pro I thought I would write an article up on my blog about the exercise.

Swapping magnets is not as hard as one would think. Check out my article if you are interested, let me know that you think through my comments section.

Re: Swapping pickup magnets

Wow! I'm surprised that there hasn't been much interest in this. I think it's a really cool mod to try out, and fairly simple to do as long as you are careful.

I installed a new stronger ceramic pickup magnet today, and the results have been fantastic. Heaps more power out of the pickup, a little fatter, but still a PAF Pro tone. Check out my new blog post for more info, and a basic guide to changing pickup magnets.

Cool! What magnet is in it stock, and what sort of change are you hoping to achieve?

Re: Swapping pickup magnets

Hi, I have an SD Sreamin' Demon lyin' around. It comes stock with an alnico V, I'd like to get some more output from it. Any recommendations?

Nelson

Re: Swapping pickup magnets

Well as listed in my article, I replaced an alnico 5 magnet for a ceramic magnet to get some more output. That's probably the way you want to go. Just remember that results may vary based on the overall build of your pickup, but you should end up with some more output.

Thanks LonePhantom, just one more question if you don't mind me asking. Where did you buy that big ceramic magnet?

As I mentioned in my article, Ormsby Guitars in Western Austraila. Link in in my article. You can email them. Probably an option for you closer to your home though.
