talman pickup suggestions
i just picked up another ibanez to add to the family (this will now make 5 along side my 88 jem 777dy, rg-520qs, rg-470, and rg-570) and i'm curious of what pickups to put in it. i've already got dual paf pro's in the 470 and the jem and i have a fred and and paf pro in the 570 (going to swap the fred out for most likely a dual tone). and i think i'll give the 520 a
tone zone
in the bridge so the question is what to put in my talman that would give me a similar tone to my other axes but as well will sound amazing. i play grunge/rock with a mix of heavy distortion and brilliant cleans (the wonders of multiple pedals and a
fender twin
).
so any suggestions on a pickup config on this one. i'd love to hear some other talman owner's opinions.
thanks

Re: talman pickup suggestions
You could mix it up with some Duncan Phat Cats, they'd give you a distinct alternative, and they'd look cool in there.
If you want to stay within your "sound family" you could try a Norton Bridge/Breed Neck combination, or try the Breed Neck in the bridge along with something like the Air Classic or Virtual Vintage neck.
Also which Talman is it?

Aaaaaah, another Talman owner.
I'm sticking with the stock pickups because I quite like them.

Re: talman pickup suggestions
filtertrons!!!
phat cats, bluesbuckers. something raw and nasty. talmans bring out the garage side of pickups. that, a rat pedal, a tremolo pedal and
fender super reverb
. god, that has punk/surf/rockabilly all over it...in a good way!

Re: talman pickup suggestions
yeah i finally decided (after looking at what the last person did to the
bridge pickup
) to change it out and i replaced it with a
super distortion
. i'm currently re-stringing the guitar and stretching the strings but so far i like what i hear. much nicer clean than the fred, paf pro still has a place in my heart with it's clean sound but this is a nice hotter pup to accent my collection (i'm thinking about doing a tz combo in my rg-520 and i've already got a dual paf pro going in my rg-470 and jem 777)

Re: talman pickup suggestions
i must say though petie i like that silver flake. that's nice, how's the bigsby on it? the guy who had mine last cut the lead at the beginning of it by the pickup itself and then taped (with scotch tape mind you and no solder) the hot lead back together and then just twisted the ground back together and let them dangle with out being insulated. so when i finally got this beast out to a practice, unaware of the pickup hatchetry, it squeeled like a pig in sh*t. so a trip to the trusty
music store
and $60 later i have a dimarzio super d. looks a little odd with the original
neck pup
still in there but eh, i'm odd too.
