That age old question...

Air Norton or PAF Pro for the neck position of my (basswood) RG2570.

I'm after an articulate yet rounded sound for soloing without getting muddy, like Petrucci I suppose. I need notes to be perfectly clear for sweeps etc, while still keeping some nice warmth for that huge sound on sustained notes. The sorta choppy sound you get with that on fast picked lines is also highly desireable.

I've seen so many conflicting opinions on this matter, but as a pickup is a fairly serious investment for me financially, i cant afford to make the wrong choice first time round.

Cheers guys.

That choppy sound comes from having perfect picking that isn't sloppy at all. His sound is really round because of the Air Norton pickup though. The Paf Pro sounds good it's got a bit more sparkle to it though. I replaced my Paf Pro with an Air Norton and liked the AN more. If you really like Petrucci's sound buy an Air Norton.

Breed Neck, it's somewhere between the 2, IMO, and perfect for a 24 fret RG.

I'd go with the Air Norton. I have em' in the neck position of two of my guitars......j-custom, Peavey vortex1, and they produce a nice rounded tone. If you have the cash you could try both and see what your personal preference is.
