the breed neck model in the bridge spot?

I love the PAF pro but it lacks bass and chunk?
i hear the breed neck is a fatter toned PAF pro?
I want the harmonics+ output of the pro but only more low end

Re: the breed neck model in the bridge spot?

I think it's worth a try. I have a Breed neck and I love it in a 24 fret RG. But I have an "extra" one sitting here (for someone else) and I've been tempted to try it in the bridge. I think it would work well. In my brain, I'm kind of placing it between the Fred and the Norton. The overtones would be more subdued than the Fred, but it should have good output and punch.

I was told that it is essentially a paf pro but has more output and bass
so its may be great for me?
steve over at dimarzio said it is not just a "neck only" pup

Re: the breed neck model in the bridge spot?

It's not, as a matter of fact, I think the current Dimarzio offerings are missing a Dual Resonance bridge humbucker @ around 10kohms. The Fred is in that range, but that's about it. I had an Al Di Meola bridge pickup that was pretty great. The Breed neck will probably sound a lot like that pickup. But it has more output. I eventually sold the ADM because I needed more output in whichever guitar I was using it in at the time. Somewhere on this site I did a review of the Al Di Meola. You can search for it. Actually instead of describing the Breed as a cross between the Fred and Norton, it's probably even more accurate to say it's a cross between the Fred and the ADM, since I don't think the ADM is a Dual Resonance.

They should make a small, insignificant tweak to the Breed neck model and re-name it and market it as a bridge pickup. It would probably blend really well with a PAF Pro neck.

I would really like to hear how this sounds... I wonder how it would pair with a Tonezone in the neck!

Re: the breed neck model in the bridge spot?

I spoke with the folks at Dimarzio, and they recommended the Bree neck in the bridge position. This was based upon my desire for an articulate yet non-sterile tone. I was coming from an RG470 with EMG 81/85.

I admit that I did not take their advice, because it is kind of an unknown quantity...but I sure am curious. Still might have to try it.

OK guys i went out and got the breed neck model and installed it in my basswood/birch roadstar II
it is unbeleivably good!
it sounds a lot like a paf pro but but on steroids!
it is chunkier and has a lot more harmonics and some more output but still sounds classic
you must give this a go to hear for yourself,it is a KEEPER!
