Thoughts on Ibanez V2 bridge pup

hi. has anyone tried this Ibanez V2 bridge pickup? it's supposed to be made/designed by dimarzio in the 90s.. anyway.. i tried searching for reviews on harmony-central but what i read was quite insufficient..

i currently have a PRS SE Standard with stock pickups.. i'm loving the neck pup, however the bridge seems a bit short on tone for me.. it has a 10.5K DC resistance which is kinda medium output.. i'm looking for some higher output ones. my friend is selling an ibanez V2 for cheap, it's made in japan too.. it's in a really good condition, imo..

my gripe about the SE's bridge pickup is that it doesn't make that much of a sustain and harmonics seem to be a little short.. i tried comparing it with an ibanez with a dimarzio tone zone.. same amp, same effects, same cables, just a different guitar with a different pickup.. the dimazio just smashes the stock SE bridge pickup..

so, any reviews on the V2? it's wound almost the same as the tone zone.. it also has alnico5 magnets.. thanks..

i play blues, 80s hair metal, alternative, a bit of reggae and ska, some clean stuff, a bit of shred too..

My advice: save a bit more money and buy a high end pickup (Dimarzio, Seymour Duncan, EMG)

Yeah, I'd say unless it's a freebie, it's not worth opening up your guitar for. I think they tend to sound very generic and quite bland. They weren't made by DiMarzio, the ones found on the 700 series were, but not the 500 series RGs.

As Mr. Killer suggests, you might be better off saving for a "name" pickup, such as a DiMarzio or Duncan etc.

LOL! I found this thread googling for a V2 pickup.
No, the Tone Zone doesn't sound like a V2. If I had to say, the V2 is like a mix between an Evo and a Super Distortion in terms of sound. And it's a GREAT pickup IMO! The V8 that replaced it is, IMO, poor by comparison.
I think Maxxon made the V2 for Ibanez. I wish they's make them aftermarket.
V2, I think, is more of an old-school metal sound. If you're looking for something with more bass or a bit more modern I'd go with another pickup.

I have that in one of my RG550 and it's pretty good. I was very skeptic after trying v6 and v7 pickups that are pure crap. V2 is a bit muddy but will satisfy most people - high output and some cool harmonics too. I think you can definitely increase versatility for your axe with it.

Re: Thoughts on Ibanez V2 bridge pup

I have an older 570 (I think 1989) and it came with a v1 and a v2.

But the v2 was in the neck position.

I have never seen one in the bridge position.

But I have one lying around and I am currently assembling two guitars. Maybe i'll stick one in and see how it sounds. To be honest, I have always wondered how it would sound in the bridge position.
