I have an
alder strat with an old Ibanez humbucker in the bridge that I took off a Roadstar 550 back in 1987. Don't ask why. My neck pickup is a
Lace Sensor Blue. I'm looking for more definition in the bridge and a little more bite in the neck and brightness. I'm looking to do a HH set up with coil tap rather than HSH since the middle pickup gets in the way. (I play rock instrumental music for the most part, but do rock/hard rock covers too from 80's on.)
I'm thinking either one of these combinations: Tone Zone/Air Norton or Evos/Evo Neck for Legacy.
I know most will say use the Evos since Vai uses them, but is that truly the better sound? Maybe so in the Legacy since the Tone Zone/Air Norton are a little darker sounding. I love those pickups when I have played them through other amps at stores, but never tried them through a Legacy. Would they be too dark?
Also in a HH set up, I'll wire it so the neck pickup can do humbucker or single coil. I'd want the single coil sound to have that tubular sound if that makes any sense.
What do you think? Maybe there is a better combination of pickups.
Please keep it to Dimarzio for now.
