Tone Zone. Can't decide?

ok i am ordering 3 new bridge pick-ups to finally replace the stock
V8, V8-7 and dmz/ibz

i only play metal,

now i'm deffinatly going for a BLAZE custom for the RG1527

and a TONE ZONE for the RG1550

and i'm just wondering if i should buy another TONE ZONE
for the RG2550ex or should i get a different pick-up so that i have 2 different sounding guitars and if thats the case what would be a good contrast to the tone zone but still be perfect for metal

cheers

Re: Tone Zone. Can't decide?

I would get a Blaze Neck for the bridge position of the RG1527 its still hot enough but it tames the low B alot so it doesnt turn to mud.. I have it in my 7421 in both positions and its FAN-FRICKING-TASTIC...

Also try Breeds in one of the 6'ers

Re: Tone Zone. Can't decide?

The Blaze Custom Is a good pickup for lead from the bridge, as it's quite fat, and has enough power in the mids to sound warm. This warmness however detracts from the low B somewhat and you'll need to modify your amp settings to get the low notes clearer. This might mean turning your gain down lower than you'd normally like too.

As well, cleans are harder to achieve in full humbucker as there's more midrange, thus cranking the clean chanell more than you may like.

Sonically the blaze custom falls half way between a steves special / blaze and a tone zone

Regarding another 6 string choise, for pure metal, I recomend the steves special. It's tonaly similar to the blaze, and is very clear for low string work. Cleans are very audible, the only detracting quality is some thiness on the the upper high string compared to warmer pickups with more mid. It's not terrible, and nothing your amp can't fix

but isn't the stock Dmz/Ibz bridge pup supposed to sound a bit like a steve special?

i'm really not very impressed with it

I'd get a PAF Pro. Can't go wrong with them for ANY style.

Re: Tone Zone. Can't decide?

It's plenty hot for the heaviest of heavy metals, even compared to my X2N. I really don't buy into all of this overblown hottness stuff. Sure, there are some that have a higher reading on the multimeter, but when you actually play it, you won't notice that much of a difference (unless you are comparing single coils to humbuckers, or EMG's to passives, etc). Alot of the difference is in the amp and your pick attack.

Just my two cents though.

yeah, i just ordered the breed bridge, the tone zone, and the blaze custom

now i just have to wait a week for them to arrive.

i was going to get the local music store to install them cause they'll do a much neater job but that will take another week of waiting so i'm just gonna do it myself,
(i've done a 2 year electronics tafe course and 1 year of P.A setup and repair)i'm just heaps messy.

Cool. I hope you like the Breed bridge. It's a nice pickup.

RE: Being messy. Just take your time. It's good that you decided to do it yourself, and save yourself some $$$.

Don't you find them a little...'bouncy' for darker sounding songs? I definitely do.
