Tone Zone For......

How's a tone zone for instrumental rock like Satch or the like. I don't really want a Moe Joe or Fred because I play some harder stuff to.

Thinking about a Tone Zone or breed.

I'd guess it'd do just fine on some instrumental stuff.I think some of the samples on the Dimarzio site are from instrumentals.

Re: Tone Zone For......

As with any other pickup it really depends on what you're pumping it through. While I can say TTZ is a pretty versatile pickup, for Satch and Vai type stuff I can think of others that would do the job better. A good compromise between heavy chord driven rock and lyrical type lead work while used in a basswood axe would be a Dimarzio Norton in the bridge slot.

Again, it depends on what you're pumping it through, and what your interpretation of instrumental rock is.

The TZ is a pretty versatile pickup. My suggestion to tailor it more to the sounds you want is to get an EQ pedal and use it to shape your tone before it hits the amp. You can cut off some of the low-mid that the TZ seems to have an abundance of that way.

However, if you're aiming for the exact tone as Satch and Vai, I'd just get more guitars with different pickups.

You might try the Norton. It's right in the middle of all the stuff you've listed.
