Re: tone zone in alder?

I'm also interested to know. I have a maple neck-thru-body guitar on the way with alder wings and I'm gonna need to change the pickups. I'm guessing my guitar will be fairly bright, so something like a TZ might work well.

tone zone in alder does fine . alder is a bit brighter sounding wood and the tone zone having the bass and mids it does usually go well .

As I thought. I might buy one and stick a Humbucker From Hell in the neck for clean and single coil-type sounds.

if you throw a humbucker from hell in the neck with a maple neck-through it will sound really bright and strat like .

I havn't actaully played a humbucker from hell , but going from what i have heard it is very strat like .

Re: tone zone in alder?

That's pretty much what I'm after, something that cleans up nicely and gives me Stratty tones. I like the sound of a Strat neck pickup a lot, so maybe it'll work well for me. I hope so. My other option is to fit a coil tap and go with something else. I just can never choose what to go for, though.

I just got a Humbucker from Hell installed in my PGM301. I'm going to plug it in a few minutes so I will post a report when I'm done playing it for the night.
