UV7PWH humming after pickup replacement... help!

Replaced the dead bridge pickup in my UV7PWH with another Blaze. It sends signal out just like it should. Output is nice & hot. But it also picked up a nasty humming habit.

Specifics:
Mild but noticeable 60Hz hum which gets worse if I touch the pickup. Hum is at its worst with volume at around 5. Hum goes away completely if I run the tone control down to 0.

I followed this Jemsite schematic:
http://www.jemsite.com/tech/img/t_wd_777.gif

And I'm pretty sure I've done it accurately, though my soldering is amateurish at its very best.

Anyone experienced anything like this? Any obvious mistake(s) I may have made?

Thanks for any help or advice... this UV's been sick for a while and I'm really looking forward to getting her back on her feet.

And also, a postscript concerning the above-linked schematic: there's a ground wire not pictured in the diagram that goes to a screw in the body under the bridge pickup. Am I correct in assuming that I should tie that to the volume pot along with all the other ground wires?

Make sure it's properly grounded too. 60 cycle hum is usually a grounding issue- think Strats......

Re: UV7PWH humming after pickup replacement... help!

Hey, thanks for the replies.

I did have the green & bare wires from the pickup grounded... I've double- and triple-checked against the schematic and everything seems to be where it belongs.

I also suspected lousy solder joints, so I took everything apart and rewired it from scratch, testing every testable connection and making sure I had less than 1 ohm resistance everywhere that was supposed to be connected. In this way I did catch a cold joint or two that I redid until they were solid.

Same business as before. Grumble.

Is there any specific ground lead that the symptoms might lead you to guess isn't connected properly?
