V1 vs F1

I'm debating on swapping out the V1 in my 550 for an F1 I had in the bridge of my 770 but wanted to know your opinions before I go thru with it.

I've got 2 other Ibby's with Tone Zone's in the bridge and they kick ass for the high gain tone I play. I dig the not as hot V1 but am curious if the F1 will give me a slightly stronger, gainier attack.

I don't want to dish out for another Tone Zone as I already have that tone in the other axes.

What are your opinions, gain wise, fullness, sustain wise of the V1 vs. the F1?

********CORRECTION:*********

It's a V2 in the bridge. The V1 is in the neck. Diggin' that one.

Re: V1 vs F1

the F1 is a actual dmarzio
it is like a tone zone lite
the V2 is kind of muddy/bland for em

Re: V1 vs F1

well, the f1 is more like a paf pro. if that's what you want, that's cool. i don't dig it. i had an f1 in my 540r, got pulled for a super3. the v2 is actually a hotter pickup than the f1. more sterile, but with more output. the v8 is basically more agressive version of the v2. neither are bad pickups, but i always end up pulling them for a dimarzio or duncan. if you really want an ibz usa to drop into the bridge slot, the f2 or f3 would be better. the f2 is "like" a stroked down tone zone, but without the openess. never tried the f3, but everyone says it's just like the super3, which is my personal favorite pickup in basswood.

Re: V1 vs F1

I've got an F1, F2, and an F4 laying around. I'm digging the V2 as it's a different beast from my other axes. Just wondering if the F series will do "more" for me. I don't really want another TZ or Duncan as I have 4 guitars with those in them already. Looking for some variety.

I replaced the F4 neck in my 770 with a PAF Pro. eh, it's ok, nothing special.

I think I'll give the F2 a go in the bridge and keep the V1 in the neck.

it's kinda funny that you swapped an f4 for a paf pro. they are very close pickups. an f2 in the bridge will sound good. not great to my ears, but better than a v2, imo. if you still have the f4, drop that into that axe as well, make the set match. the f4 has alot more character than the v1.

I swapped the f4 because I wanted to put in a matching white set of Dimarzio's in there.

Funny you mentioned putting the 4 in the neck. I was thinking the same thing this morning. Ha ha
