Re: What Dimarzio's Do You Have In Strats

I've got Duncans in my strat.

Don't know which, they where stock singles. Only changed the bridge to a Hot Rails

Great sound.

Cool to hear some strat pup info since we mostly talk about RG's here.

Custom ALder strat

Paf Pro bridge, and HS3 in middle and neck.

All sound awesome and are versatile, whilst still sounding strat-like

I like this picture of your cat showing off his Stratocaster. What else does he play?

Do the pups balance well with volume? I want a Paf Pro in my bridge and my YJM in the neck. I was worried about how they would balance. I have a HS3 in the bridge now and the neck YJM is louder than the hs3.

I have a YMJ Strat with whatever the stock pickups are (HS3 I think) in bridge and neck, and something else in the middle. Sounds pretty ok....kinda fuzzy maybe.

Re: What Dimarzio's Do You Have In Strats

I used to use a Tonezone in the bridge, an Area 58 in the middle, and a PAF JOE in the neck. The Tonezone was overkill and muddied up on all rhythm playing, but had an amazing pressence for single note stuff and soloing. The area 51 was wired between the humbuckers with a superswitch and 500k pots rather than the standard 250k strat pots, but sounded allright in positions 2 and 4 and had a woody classic strat sound in the middle. The neck tone was clear, lush, and had the tubular sound where soloing from the low strings to the high strings sounded consistant. I could hear most single notes within a chord.

In the end I went back to the standard strat configuration with the stock pickups, and havn't looked back since... to me a strat should be a strat, and I'lll keep the dimarzio kit for a RG or something where the stocks actually need changing!

Hope this helped!

I love the YJM in the neck, the HS3 doesn't do it for me. You have to have the amp cranked for it to sound good. I'm going to put a Heavy Blues 2 or a Chopper in mine.

Re: What Dimarzio's Do You Have In Strats

I have Lace Golds in my Strat currently, the cleans are awesome, however, they sound a tad thin when distorted. I'm trading out for the super Gold series today, and I need to dial in an amp setting just for my Strat, so tweaking is in order.

I'm hoping I can settle on the super Golds, otherwise, I have the EMG SA series in mind for the next trial.

I tried the Dimarzio HS-3s and HS-2 previously and was surprised how low the output of those pickups was. I like the hotness of the Red, silver and Blue Laces, but the identity of the Strat vanishes, IMO.

I have Virtual Solo (B), Area 67 (M) and Area 58 (N) in one.
Area 61 (B), Area 67 (M and N) in one.
A True Velvet combo in one.
Tone Zone S (B) and HS-2 in neck and middle in one.

I don't mean this in a disrespectful way, but thats pretty funny.
HS-3 and YJM are the same pickup, the only thing that are different are that YJM have vintage staggered magnet poles.
So the only difference in sound are a tiny bit of more presence in the YJM.

No Dimarzios for me. I got Seymour Duncan li'l Screamin' Demon neck, Duckbuckers (wired in parallel) middle and Screamin' Demon bridge. Great great tones.

Re: What Dimarzio's Do You Have In Strats

Had an EVO, but it sounded too thin/ice picky. Had an X2N which was a metal machine, but has too much output. and I tried a Super distortion. The Super wasn't bad for old school sounds.
