WHAT KIND OF PICKUPS DO YOU PUT ON A NON-WOOD GUITAR?!
I'm really fancying the idea of buying an
acrylic
guitar and putting LED's in it a la JEM20TH
but then if I were to get one here in the Philippines I'm sure as hell that the stock
pickups
would suck harder than a newborn child, so if I were to get replacement pickups for it, which ones?
(I heard that since acrylic guitars are much more dense than most wood species used for guitar building, you'd need special design pickups for it, much like the TransJEM pickups on the JEM20TH.)

It wouldn't matter really, the relationship pickups have with the body is how the wood effects the string vibration.

You would put wood pickups in it.

HI theapprentice, in a solid guitar, or any guitar, I would suggest Dimarzio Paf pros. They have that les paul sound but more pronounced mid's and no chimeyness. I had one in a solid body. It was awesome, and now in a les paul custom that is not solid I believe because it's lightweight. This one is real good sounding, I have them in neck and bridge positions. Wonderful.

@yamaha12 thanks for the suggestion man, but I am concerned more on the compatibility of pickups on different body material than with the pickups' individual sound. We all know that in one way or another a guitar's body type would affect the final sound that comes out of your amp, however small that may be. I would like to try PAF Pros though.

Re: WHAT KIND OF PICKUPS DO YOU PUT ON A NON-WOOD GUITAR?!
Back in th' day (you know, the 60s) you'd see acrylic guitars with some frequency, and you'd see all sorts of pickups on them - I doubt that you need to worry about which pickups you'd put on it because of the body material. Think about it - on say, a strat (or any guitar with a pickguard to which the pickups are mounted), the pickups are mounted to the pickguard rather than the body of the guitar, and are usually isolated from the body with copper or aluminum tape in the cavity, so they are'nt directly interacting with the guitar's tonewood anyway.
btw, the Dimarxio PAF pros would be a great choice if you're looking for warm, fat. Consider the scale length as well - it does a lot more to influence the sound than most people realize.

I have an acrylic Steinberger-like guitar with a Seymour Duncan JB. It rocks!
