What pickups do you use?

So what pickups do you use? and why do you use them?

I'll start:

I use a dimazrio X2N in the bridge position of my RR3. It has alot of power behind it and really brings the guitar to life.

In my 7 string i use a Bareknuckle 7 string Warpig, because it is very responsive to the bass frequencies, it makes the low B very tight and focused with a smooth lead sound.

My Fender strat has a JB junior in the bridge position, i put it in my Fender years ago when it was the only good guitar i owned and wanted a more poweful sound. But i'll be giving the guitar a major mod soon, scalloped neck, Yngwie dimarzios (i played an yngwie strat earlier and i loved it)

In my Ibanez's i use the stock pickups. But i'm looking for a more expressive alternative to put in my RG

Re: What pickups do you use?

I have been through quite a few lately
started with a tone zone this was good but too artificial
then the duncan custom, this one was almost perfect but it was not vintage enough
then i tried the air zone, better than the tone zone, more dynamic, open and natural sounding
then for the hell of it i bought a used schaller PAF(golden 50)
this pup floored me!
it has tone and a good output
it is real clean but can get downrioght NASTY if pushed

The stock strat pickups on my Classic 50's Strat. Very nice tone. Awesome for blues, country, rock, and a bit of shred. It handles distortion very well. I'll be using 'buckers when I get the Les Paul. Gonna play some Jazz and more shred on it.

Re: What pickups do you use?

EMG 81/S/85 combo in my RG370. This pickup combo suits pretty much all of my styles of playing. When I get my RG7321, I plan to change the stock pups to a Dimarzio Blaze Custom for the bridge and the Blaze Neck model for the neck. The Blaze Custom seems like the best bridge pickup for the way that I play judging from the way that people describe it as well as what the Dimarzio tech told me. I would consider EMGs but I don't feel like going through all the hassle of routing the guitar.

Re: What pickups do you use?

In my '70's Penco Paul, I replaced the stock bridge pickup with an '85 duncan (Salvaged from an old Kramer), because I thought it sounded too thin, the neck pickup is stock. (Sounds like Robert Fripp's 57 Black Beauty!) But I added a push/pull for coil taps.
My EX1500 has it's original stock pickups, but with a simple switch added to turn the neck or bridge on, giving you 7 possible combos.
My Pro540R, I'm considering a Kramer Quad Rail in the bridge, just haven't decided yet.

Re: What pickups do you use?

In both of my RG's and my Jackson: DiMarzio ToneZone in bridge, stock middle pickup, DiMarzio AirNorton in neck. And in my JEM, the stock Breed's.

Re: What pickups do you use?

I dunno where to start with my setup. I guess the most consistent setup I have is the Tone Zone/Blue Velvet/Air Norton combos which came stock on all my J-Customs(except for one). The rest of my guitars are all a mix of the Dimarzio Paf Pro, Humbucker from Hell, Air Zone, Tone Zone, Norton, Evolution, Duncan Full shred, Custom, JB, Jazz, '59 and got some Lace Sensors somewhere. Only got one guitar with EMGs (81/SA/89). For 7 strings, I generally use the TZ7, Evo7, Blaze pickups. (the TZ7 is actually my neck pickup).

I definitely need to finish working on my modular pickup design system. It's such a pain soldering and desoldering pickups to find the right combo. Anyone got a hardtail Ibanez they want to donate to research ?

(oh yeah, I also have a pickup that's actually a guitar amp, but I guess it doesn't quite qualify as a pickup as it doesn't exactly 'pick up' anything).

Thumbs up

Re: What pickups do you use?

I have used Bill Lawrence L500XL's and Duncan Detonators which is a cheaper version of the invader. Both of these are killer pickups. The detonator is sounds awesome for a cheaper pickup and the L500XL will make your ears bleed, these are what dimebag used before the dimebucker.

Re: What pickups do you use?

My choice of pickups is this:

On Tokai Strat Seymour Duncan Dimebucker in the bridge position for extreme metal sounds and fast picking. It's so damm powerfull so it's not very clean.
Seymour Duncan JB Jr. in the neck position for high output. It's clean and it's not too fat or warm. Suits well for my style.

On Seatle Dimarzio Steve's Special in the bridge position because it's clean. It suits for fast picking and chords even with high gain. On the neck position I have Dimarzio PAF Pro also because it's clean. It's good for many different styles. Not muddy, very good for everything what I play.

Oh and in the middle position on both guitars I have stock single coils.
