What pickups for s1670?

Hello dear Jemsite!

I'm looking for some new pickups to my Ibanez S1670FM since the stock ones feel a little to weak for me. I've been thinking on getting some Evo 2s but when I read about them some people said it weren't good for mahogany guitars, is that true? And what pickups should I get otherwice? Been looking for something a little similar to the Evos (pretty high output, a lot of easy harmonics, clear, nice, lead with fat rytm). So in other words a pretty nice metal pickup. I don't want any EMGs or any other active pickups. Some of my friends recommended the Breed, how would they suit?

No, it is not true that EVO 2 aren't good for mahogany guitars.
All mahogany guitars don't sound the same, not even close (there are not even any characteristic that is always there), so there are no truth in it at all.
All talk about "don't work well with X wood" is just myths based on subjective things.
And subjective things with 100 variables and still that one specific thing gets all the blame.
And not to mention simple little things like taste.

I personally love Breed, the best pickup ever made in my opinion, but I don't think it is a good metal pickup. It is just to fat sounding to be really clear on low riffs.
In my taste, and also depending on what sound you got in the rest of your rig.

I think EVO 2 would work better.

But also take a look at D-Sonic or Steve Morse bridge model.

Good luck with your tone hunt.

very well said.

I was once scared about muddy tones and bought the trebliest pickups for my mahogany guitar.
Now I look for the muddiest ones.

Thanks!

Pickups are the part of guitars where there are the most "non reality based" talk about.

Re: What pickups for s1670?

Thanks both of you! Great answears which cleared up a lot. It seems like I'm leaning towards at least trying the Evo 2, if it doesn't fit I'll maybe try the breed or D-sonic. The rest I got in my rig is a Marshall JMP and a Yjm DOD (Yngwie Malmsteen pedal). The Marshall...is a Marshal and the DOD pedal is kind of trebly in my opinion, so something a bit fat would be nice in the pickup. I'll look in to some reviews of the D-Sonic pickup.
