Question

Whats your favorite AN/TZ combined sound? Out of phase? split coil? parallel?

I recently put together a project strat. (pics here http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f19/ne...ics-82440.html)
I'm liking the guitar. So much in fact that right now it's my only electric. So what I'm looking for is a more interesting middle position sound.
The switch is a 3-way, pickups are Air Norton / Tone Zone. Currently the middle position is both humbuckers full on together. I don't really use this much since the TZ and AN sound so big on their own that combining them sounds a little different but not a lot.
What is the best option for a different middle position sound? Here are the ones I can think of...

1) Both humbuckers in series
2) Both humbuckers in parallel
3) Both humbuckers out of phase
4) Split the humbuckers into single coils
4) One hum and one single

Any experience with how these combinations sound? I'm looking for a nice clean maybe straty sound I guess.

Well I went with the out of phase option just because it was the quickest and easiest mod. It's kind of cool. I have it wired 2 vol 1 tone and I can vary the amount of "out of phaseness" by adjusting either volume. Lots of acoustic type sounds.

I might try that. I'll dig up some JPM schematics.

Ditto.
Or the same, but with the "neck side of the humbucker" active instead of "middle coils".
