I think that the PGM model comes with humbucker from hell.

As far as I'm aware most if not all of the PGM models including the current PGM301 come with PAF pros but Gilbert's favorite and most used pickups are tone zones. Before Gilbert was using mainly Tone Zones he was using PAF pros and before he was mainly using PAF pros he was using Super Distortions.

Seeing as his main axe is a 300 turned to fixed bridge, i always wonder if its got the 300's original TZs, or Paf Pros like the 301...

weird...

I think he uses paf pro in the neck tone zone in the bridge most of the time.

HFH is a neck pickup only.

ToneZone's most of the time. They are his "favourite" pickup. But he also uses the PAF Pro's too. As for using a HFH, I don't ever recall him using one. He might well have done, but certainly not for very long.

I'd go TZ though.

he mixes the pus alot
i m not too sure
but i dont think it matters paul
hes been playing pgm3 with inf pus and it still sounded like paul
and on his dino rg, he uses jumpstart single coils, and that was his main sound on tour and clinics

There is this cool viedo on youtube (shot a loooong time go) where he talks about his love for Ibanez and old models and shows off one with a HFH he really likes, but that is an exception. As far as I know the sound that is most identiable with PG are Paf Pros !

When did he swith to a TZ, I have missed that part somehow ?

BTW I've seen him live in Paris on his GOOMY tour and it was AMAZING ! Uber cool guy, enormous playing and it was just a blast ! So if you get a chabce seing him live near you don't hesitate for a second !

Re: which dimarzio is most used by paul gilbert?

Depends on the guitar he's using. On the current G3 tour the red one has a tone zone in the bridge and an ibanez single coil he got from a really inexpensive starter pack guitar. The white doubleneck has a tone zone in the bridge. The maple fingerboard white PGM has paf pros.
The problem is some PGM are alder and the majority are basswood-they sound very different. A lot of Paul's sound is his incredible pick attack and total lack of effects..NO DELAY NO REVERB. Paul almost has a 70's sound with more gain-he set the bass controls on his Laney fairly low and has the presence control really high-this should get you in the ballpark soundwise. There's a video on youtube where Pauls showing how to play the end of Scarified on an Ibanez 335 semi hollowbody guitar with stock IBZ pickups and he's getting the same kind of sound he always gets.

He switched YEARS ago. He has never been an avid user of a HFH. That little video you saw was just him saying he "might" put one into a guitar he once had. That doesn't mean he uses them all the time.

Like I've said before. His favourite pickup is the ToneZone, and the PAF Pro. But as other people have said, he can play through anything and still sound like Paul Gilbert always does.

And get this...

You know those cheap Ibanez Jumpstart kits? He actually has those cheap crappy pickups in his RG750 (the one with the dino stickers.)

Do a youtube search for 'guitar wars' and on that gig he plays that guitar and the tone is great (it's the white single coil in the neck)

I love Paul's pick attack. Does anyone know what kind of pick he uses? I know Ibanez makes a signature pick, but is that really the pick/material that he uses?
