which pots?

so i need to replace the volume and tone pots on my rg2550z if i want to fit these ibanez plastic knobs (knurled) because the pots that come with the guitar are smooth and fit only the metal knobs.

what i need to know is which pots to buy. there's a million pots on the bay.

i know i need 2 500k pots (since the guitar is HSH config) and i'm pretty sure i need 1 linear and 1 audio/logarithmic pot but i'm not sure which one is for which knob.

also, in terms of soldering the new pots in, is it just a matter of resoldering the wires onto the same places they were on the old pot?

any info appreciated

is a good full-size choice(get the 500K). I have had good luck with these #3477 500K-ohm, mini pot as well

just match the new pot wiring to the old and it should be perfect. Use a good iron and clean the pot casing(for the ground connections) with a pencil eraser first.

I always fit the dimarzio custom taper pots for 2 reasons..
1. you dont have to worry about linear and audio - dimarzio pots are custom taper and work for both
2. they last forever..

job done.

Re: which pots?

There are alot of crappy pots out there on e-bay! Don't scrimp on this stuff...

Industry standards - best of the best are...CTS, Bourns, and Mu-Rata.

What length is the threaded shaft on these Dimarzio pots? Is it long enough to use on an RG 570 (3/8") or are they for pick guard mounting(1/4")?

the ones i bought from rich were "standard" ones i think, as in, you can use em on pickguard mounting or no PG. i added two washers onto them and they're a bit too high, but i can't be bothered taking them all apart just to take a washer out.

i'm sure the dimarzio's would be good for either.

Re: which pots?

Ya,most likely they are good for both but something I have learned the hard way is not to assume anything about pots, there are quit a few variations.

Re: which pots?

Well I finally got some of these Dimarzio pots. The shaft is too thick to go trough an RG520 body without drilling the holes out and they have fine spline shafts so the course splined stock Ibanez knobs don't fit.COOL

Well,I stuck 'em in and have to say the dimarzio pots are well worth the minor fitting. Nice and smooth with a very even taper through the range. Thanks for the tip Jaden.
