Will Dimrzio fit right into Duncan route?

I'm looking at at guitar that has direct mounted Duncan in it which I may want to put direct mount Dimarzios in. Because Duncan and Dimarzio pups have slightly different mounting tabs, I'm not sure if Dimarzios will just drop right in.

If you have any info on the subject, I'd appreciate it you would chime in. Thank you.

they should

but you can always use a dremel and shave part of the ear

i had to do this with my duncan when i tried to put them into my carvin, later i just got a bartolini so i had to kind route the entire pocket

but yeah give the mountin "tabs" a shave....but try t do a dry fit, it might fit right in

Re: Will Dimrzio fit right into Duncan route?

umm..losgatos has it backwards. if it had a duncan to begin with, a dimarzio will drop right in. the duncan route is bigger. much like direct mounted v7 and v8 pickups. the dimarzios have the smaller triangle ears and will drop richt in with rook to spare. now losgatos is correct in the vice versa. me personally, i don't use a dremel for shaving the ears down, i use either diagonal cutters or lineman pliers to nip the shape and then use a file to deburr and smooth the edges. a dremel that close to the windings...if you slip and catch the winding, either you have to rebuild that pickup or trash it. with hand tools, you'll have better control. i would avoid tin snips as the blades are too big to be fairly precise. i have even reshaped a few just with a file. more time consuming, but with prettier results. if you need to take more off, like with duncan to dimarzio, trim it, then, shape it.

i use a reall fine little sone wheel on it, i used snipps and i bent the ends and i got really close to messing up the holes....so i like doing it with a fine stone wheel on my dremel, but either way - yeah not all pups are the same route..
thansk for the correction rty

that's why i use diagonal cutters or lineman pliers. it gets both sides of the ear. no bending to shear. then you just work it a bit and then it's a pretty clean break. clean it up with the file and your done.
