Wire a Toggle instead of a Volume pot?

I've had my RG570 for quite some time now, and i absolutely love everything about it, save for one thing, the placement of the volume knob. With it being so close to the bridge and all up in your shizzle while playing, I always hit it :X and by the time Im done, the knob is turned all the way down! So heres my idea (I'm new to this whole guitar wiring thing so bear with me), I wire a simple 2 point toggle for the volume knob, with obviously on being full volume, and off being a master kill. will this be achievable?? =O~

Yes, but there are other options. How about a push-pull pot where the pot is out of circuit when down, but works when pulled up? Then you can still do volume swells & stuff, but have it off when shredding.

The replacement in electrical means is not a problem I think.

A normal pot is just a resistor (two 'connectors' with a constant electrical resistance between) with a third connection. This extra connection can be 'shifted' over the complete range of the resistor. On the highest configuration it is equal to the first connector of the 'normal' resistor, and in the lowest config it's equal to the other connector of the normal resistor. With this method you can alter the resistance between zero and maximum (for the guitar sound loud and off).

'Normal' resistor:
Code:
            ______________
1----------| resistor |-----------2
            --------------
Pot:

Code:
            ______________
1----------| resistor |-----------2
            --------------
^-----------------3 = Third connection (can be shifted from left to right)
Uhhm yeah, back on topic. I'm sorry, had nothing to do...I hope you understood.

The only thing that changes if you exchange the pot for a toggle is that the 'third' connection can _only_ be equal to one of the other connection, and nothing in between.

Are you going to physically replace the pot for a toggle or are you going to add an extra hole for the toggle?

i was going to replace the pot with the toggle, but after what you just said, i might just throw a push pull in the volume, maybe making the pulled out position, volume able to be adjusted, but when i push it in, make the volume stay on no matter how much i roll it back or forward. i also need a new tone pot, the one i have is scratchy like you wouldnt believe. What are the best pots for me? 500K? Where should i buy them?

500k audio taper is pretty standard for humbucker equipped guitars.

Lotsa places to buy - guitarelectronics.com, stew mac, guitarnucleus, etc. But most of the big retailers should also carry this - it's a pretty popular part.
