Wired in Parallel?

I did start to try and explain this but I cant do it that well, look up resistors in series and parallel on google and check out dimarzio's instructions.
the long and short is that the pickup has a little less volume and a different sound - some prefer it like Paul Gilbert for example. its worth trying, I have a guitar where pos 1 is bridge series and pos 2 is bridge parallel. I use both positions frequently. Its a nice sound.

For me, there's not much better clean sound available than a neck humbucker wired in parallel. Which is why I love an RG with 2 humbuckers and a 5-way switch. My RG520 has an Air Norton in the neck and the parellel position is just amazing clean, while the series position is super smooth with distortion. Make me want to try a PAF Pro that way.

Wired in parallel means that the humbucker is essentially wired as if it were two single coil pickups. Imagine a strat where the neck and middle pickup are selected, that is sort of what wired in parallel is meant to imitate (hence the clean sound that djohns74 is refering to), but the two "single coils" are right next to one another (obviously because the humbucker is one pickup). It's like a way of seperating the north and south poles of the humbucker so that they act independently from one another instead of as one unit.
