Wires white+black or red+green
I was looking at the wiring in my UV the other day and noticed the red and green wires where connected together.
Would this make any difference to the white and black wires being connected together?
Asking this because all I read on the Dimarzio site is that you've got to connect the white and black wires together.
The pickups are
Dimarzio Evolution
7's and the Blaze single, the switch is the "new" VLX switch.
Didn't wire it myself, but just wondering if it would change the tone if I rewired it like it's supposed to according to the Dimarzio and Ibanez sites.
Thanks,
Colin

Re: Wires white+black or red+green
its just swapping polarity. it's done in order to either: select a certain coil to short/keep hot, keep correct phase when used with another pickup, or both.

Oke, so it shouldn't make any difference soundwise?
I opened the guitar because I thought the
neck pup
might not be wired correctly, but it was connected the same way as the
bridge pup
. (Mirrored, offcourse) So it should be O.K. I think. Maybe I'll measure the resistance of the neck to check if it's oke.
When the neck pup is the only one activated, it should sound exactly the same as with the black&white wires connected together?
Trying to understand all this stuff, and it's hard.
Thanks,
Colin

Re: Wires white+black or red+green
Doing that will reverse the phase of the pickup, by itself it will sound the same, but will have a different tone when used with another pickup. All your doing is reversing the flow of electrons...You can have some fun with parallel wiring too...

Yeah, I thought that would be the case, thanks.

I thought it might be parallel wired, but after I took a look at the wiring I don't think it is. Even though it sounds quite the same as the evo7 in the
neck position
off my RG7620 in parallel mode. And less like the evo7 in the neck position off the 7620 in normal mode. EDIT: (The RG7620 has more bass in normal mode)
Strange, I think I might have to open my guitar again this week.
Thanks guys,
Colin

Re: Wires white+black or red+green
no, its still wired in series but at the other end of the coils, thats why people are talking about phase issues when coupled with other pickups - like position 4 on a H-S-H guitar... splits the neck pup with the mid...
if you are struggling to understand the schematics etc just remember - the quickest path is always to ground. thats how
coil splitting
works, check the schematic.
