wiring

does is matter what kind of wires are used for the connections?
can i use copper?

and I changed the pickup on my ibanez to a tone zone and there is more noise, all i did was switch them and used the same connections, i check the ground and and other connections and theres still some noise. could it be the solder?

Im using 60/40 solder with a single rosin core.

yep i use copper a lot , and havn't noticed any adverse effects .

the most likly reason why your having more buzz is simply the tone zone is a more powerful pickup the the stock . It may also pickup the interferance from your surroundings better due to the way it is made or tonal structure . It may also be that you have more unsheilded lead wire exposed meaing the possiblity of more interferance .

there are a number of things that could cause such a thing . I had a guitar i nearly went crazy over because i could never get it to stop buzzing , i tried pickups new wiring, sheilding , you name it but the guitar was just cursed i guess . i sold it for 50$ just to get away from it .

it is just one of those things .

Re: wiring

really weird thing is that your computer monitor will actually cause low level buzzing from dimarzio pickups. i always have to remember to turn it off when i'm playing or it'll drive me insane.

Re: wiring

I know my guitar makes more noise when stuff like the tv is on but thats not it, I tried changing the pickup on another guitar and it make more noise too, should i get some extra flux to put on my connections?

Re: wiring

If you're using 60/40 rosin core, the flux is built into the solder (never use acid core for electronics work). Heat the connections and then touch them with the solder to flow the solder on the connections. Try to hold the connections and wires completely still until the solder cools and completely hardens. Make sure there are no loose grounds, or even a single loose wire strand touching something it's not suppose to. Maybe get some shielding tape for you pickup and electonics cavities.
